Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)
The CSA is the lifeblood of the farm. Our shareholders support the farm year round keeping the grain bins full even when retail sales are low. Without the farm CSA we couldn't be who we are!
A Hogwash Farm Meat CSA Share gives you a monthly selection of delicious, healthy, sustainably-raised pork, grass-fed lamb, and pastured poultry raised right here in Norwich, Vermont. Shares are primarily available at three different starting points throughout the year: January, April, July, and October. When you sign up you will be asked to select a 3, 6, or 12 month share. You can join the farm CSA any time - just email to make arrangements!
How It Works:1. Select Your Share:
Depending on your needs, you can select either a Half Share (pre-assembled, approximately 10lbs/month), a Full Share (pre-assembled, approximately 20lbs/months, or a Free Choice CSA Card (you get to decide exactly what you get and when you pick up). 2. Sign Up: After choosing the share type that's right for you, send Leslie an email to get signed up! You can get started with your local meat share immediately! 3. Pick Up: At the beginning of each month we'll email you to let you know that your share is ready and you will come to our Norwich, Vermont farmstand or the Norwich Farmers Market to pick it up. Pre-assembled shares are packed in the first week of the month and pick-up starts at 3 P.M. on the first Thursday. Folks with a Free Choice CSA Card can purchase meat from the farm stand or at the Norwich Farmers Market whenever they like. Half and Full Shares will generally include approximately half ground/sausage and half higher-end cuts such as roasts and chops, in frozen “cryovac” packages. If you signed up for a Free Choice CSA Card, you'll be able to come to both the Farm Stand and the Norwich Farmers Market whenever you want. |
CSA Share Pricing
Pre-Assembled Shares:
Purchasing a CSA share is considered buying 'in bulk' from the farm so there is a 'bulk discount' built into each share. Every month we make sure pre-assembled shares get a minimum of $105 (for 10# shares) and $197 (for 20# shares) in value. This means that the longer you commit to the farm, the larger your built in discount becomes!

The Free Choice CSA Card looks just like a regular credit card with the farm logo printed on the front. Any amount can be put on the card, but a few options are listed below. In order to include a 'bulk discount' on the card, the farm will credit you with a percentage more than you choose to load it up with.

Frequently Asked Questions:
When and where will I pick up my CSA share?
CSA shares will be packed and ready for pick up by 3 P.M. on the first Thursday of every month. You will get a reminder of pick up and an update of the farm happenings in the days leading up to the pick up date. All shares will be available for pick up from the back room of the little farm stand at the farm. Leslie aims to be around the stand from 3-6 P.M. on that first Thursday to say 'hi', although life with little kids and a farm often means that 'around' doesn't necessarily mean we'll run into each other! As all the meat in the shares is frozen you don't have to pick it up on that first Thursday - you can stop by any time that's convenient for you to pick up your share. The farm stand is open 365 days a year from around 8:30 -6. IF you let Leslie know ahead of time (meaning no later than Friday afternoon) she can easily bring your share to any Norwich Farmers Market for pick up there.
What will be included in my pre-packed share each month?
Almost all shares include at least one whole chicken, at least one pack of sausage, and one pack of bacon. For 10# shares the remaining 3-5#s will be filled with either lamb or pork, either smaller cuts to make up a meal or two, or a larger roast for a meal to share. A typical 10# share has: one 4# chicken, 1# sausage, 1# bacon, 1# ground pork, 3# pork or lamb roast or cuts. Twenty pound shares are more apt to have larger items like family sized roasts. A typical 20# share might have: two 3.5# chickens, 2# sausage, 2# bacon, 1# ground pork, 1# ground lamb, 3# pork chops, 4# pork or lamb roasts.
Is all the food in my share raised on the farm?
Any pork, lamb, or turkey in your share was raised on Hogwash Farm. We own a breeding herd of pigs and sheep, so almost all the animals that might end up on your plate spent their entire lives on the farm. On occasion we buy in piglets, lambs, or breeding stock from other farms to fill out demand if needed. Turkeys are purchased as day old chicks that arrive by mail and spend the rest of their lives on the pastures at the farm. All broiler chickens are now raised by Lucky Fields Farm. Due to a great many reasons we have decided to simplify our lives and have hired the wonderful family at Lucky Fields Farm to help us with the enormous work load of raising so much food. They do a wonderful job (better than we did!!!) and we're super grateful that they want to raise delicious pastured chickens for us!
What happens if I can't pick up one month?
You can easily skip a month if you're away, as the frozen food won't spoil in the freezer. We do ask that you try to only skip one month so that storage does not become an issue in the farm stand.
How can I pay for my share?
For the moment, it's best to drop a check or cash in the Farm Stand or at the Farmer's Market to help the farm avoid paying credit card fees. If paying with a card is best for you, that can be arranged so long as we find a time to meet in person.
If I get a pre-assembled Half or Full Share can I swap things out if I'm not happy with the selection?
Every share gets a random sausage flavor and you're always welcome to swap for your favorite flavor. Swapping out bacon for a second pack of sausage also works, but for the most part the bulk of the share is not swappable. Leslie packs each share carefully to make sure you get your full value. If you dislike lamb you're welcome to tell us and we'll aim to put pork in your share instead of lamb - someone else will be thrilled to have a little extra!
Will my CSA Share include any beef?
Hogwash Farm no longer owns beef animals, but continues to sell beef when possible by purchasing healthy, delicious, grass fed animals from local partner farms.
